Keanu Reeves and Tim Miller Reunite for High-Octane Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Shiver’

Warner Bros. Secures the Sci-Fi Package with Tonal Echoes of ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ and ‘The Shallows’

Warner Bros. Locks in Star-Studded Sci-Fi Feature
Hollywood’s favorite action icon Keanu Reeves is diving into a new kind of danger — this time, with a time loop, mercenaries, and sharks. Warner Bros. Pictures has landed Shiver, a unique sci-fi action thriller that reunites Reeves with visionary director Tim Miller, best known for Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate.

The film, described as a tense blend of Edge of Tomorrow and The Shallows, promises both brain-bending sci-fi and visceral survival thrills.

Behind the scenes, the project is stacked with top-tier talent. Matthew Vaughn, the creative force behind the Kingsman franchise, will produce through his Marv Films banner, alongside Aaron Ryder, known for Dumb Money and All of You. The script comes from Ian Shorr, who previously wrote Infinite starring Mark Wahlberg.

A Smuggler, a Double-Cross, and a Deadly Time Loop

While Warner Bros. is keeping plot details tightly under wraps, early buzz suggests Shiver centers on a down-on-his-luck Caribbean smuggler who becomes entangled in a lethal betrayal. Caught between hostile mercenaries, mysterious forces, and circling sharks, he’s soon trapped in a deathly time loop — reliving his final moments again and again until he can uncover the truth and break free.

The story’s mix of high-stakes survival and mind-bending repetition echoes the pulse-pounding rhythm of Edge of Tomorrow, while its isolated, oceanic setting gives it the primal tension of The Shallows.

According to insiders, Shiver aims to deliver a genre mashup that’s both philosophical and adrenaline-fueled — something Reeves has become synonymous with throughout his career.

A Return to Sci-Fi Roots for Reeves and Miller

For Keanu Reeves, Shiver marks a return to the genre that defined much of his legacy, from The Matrix to John Wick: Chapter 4. The actor has several major projects lined up, including Netflix’s BRZRKR — based on his own comic book series — and Lionsgate’s Ballerina, a spin-off of the John Wick universe.

Though his recent releases (Ballerina and Good Fortune) underperformed at the box office, Reeves’ star power and enduring global fanbase continue to make him one of Hollywood’s most bankable names.

Director Tim Miller, meanwhile, brings his signature visual flair and action-driven storytelling to the project. A former visual effects wizard, Miller made his explosive directorial debut with Deadpool, which became a record-breaking global hit. His work on Netflix’s Emmy-winning Love, Death & Robots proved his continuing fascination with science fiction and the darker side of human imagination.

A Hollywood Powerhouse Collaboration

Shiver is shaping up to be one of Warner Bros.’ biggest prestige sci-fi bets for 2026. The studio won the rights after a competitive bidding process led by WME, which represents all major players involved, from Reeves and Miller to producers Vaughn and Ryder.

Industry insiders say the combination of Reeves’ star power, Miller’s action pedigree, and Shorr’s sharp sci-fi writing could make Shiver a standout in the post-Dune: Part Two landscape — a return to original, intelligent genre filmmaking with wide audience appeal.

While production timelines haven’t yet been announced, Warner Bros. is reportedly eyeing a 2025 production start and a 2026 theatrical release, placing Shiver firmly in the studio’s next wave of cinematic tentpoles.

Between Death, Survival, and Second Chances

Though Shiver plays with science fiction tropes, insiders hint that it will carry an emotional undercurrent — a story about regret, resilience, and the will to change one’s fate.

In Reeves’ hands, such themes feel both familiar and fresh. As audiences have seen through John Wick and The Matrix Resurrections, the actor brings a rare vulnerability to his action heroes. Under Miller’s direction, Shiver could become a blend of spectacle and soul — an existential survival thriller for a new generation.
