Budapest Confirms Key Venues for 2027 World Aquatics Championships
Budapest will once again be at the heart of global aquatic sports after organizers confirmed the principal competition sites for the 2027 World Aquatics Championships. The historic Hungarian capital will host the event from June 26 to July 18, 2027, reaffirming its status as a premier destination for international aquatic competitions.
Two iconic facilities — the MVM Dome and the Duna Arena — have been selected as the main venues for the championships. The MVM Dome, one of the region’s largest multifunctional indoor arenas, will host swimming and water polo events. Equipped with a competition-standard pool and adjacent training facilities, the dome is expected to accommodate thousands of spectators and elite athletes alike
Meanwhile, the renowned Duna Arena will be the stage for diving and artistic swimming, continuing its legacy as a world-class aquatic facility. Final details on sites for open water swimming and high diving will be announced as planning progresses.
Officials from World Aquatics and the Budapest 2027 organizing committee expressed their confidence that these venues will deliver a memorable experience for participants and fans. Their choice highlights Budapest’s proven track record in hosting major aquatic events, including previous world championships in 2017 and 2022.
In addition to its sporting significance, the 2027 championships will serve as an important qualification event for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, strengthening Budapest’s role on the international aquatics stage.
