Manchester United’s Benjamin Sesko Faces Potential Injury Layoff, Says Amorim
Manchester United’s summer signing, Benjamin Sesko, could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a knee injury sustained in the team’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. The 58th-minute substitute appeared to have been caught in a challenge by Spurs defender Micky van de Ven and was forced to limp off the pitch in the 88th minute.

While the 20-year-old Slovenia international was able to walk off with treatment, United head coach Ruben Amorim expressed concerns that the injury could be more serious than initially thought. In his post-match comments, Amorim confirmed that the injury was to Sesko’s knee, but refrained from offering any definitive prognosis until further assessments could be made.
“We have to check everything,” Amorim said when asked about the nature of the injury. “He has something in his knee, so let’s see. We think it’s a problem, but we don’t know how serious it is yet.”
Amorim was particularly cautious in his evaluation, stressing that any injury to the knee could potentially lead to a more extended layoff. “It’s the knee, and we never know,” he continued. “I think [Sesko’s form] is not the biggest concern right now. I’m more concerned about the injury because it’s in the knee, and we don’t know the extent of it.”
A Potential Setback for United’s Forward Line
Sesko’s injury comes at a particularly challenging time for Manchester United, as the team is already bracing for the loss of key players to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next month. Both Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo will be unavailable for the tournament, with Noussair Mazraoui also departing for international duty with Morocco.
With Sesko possibly sidelined, Amorim conceded that United may need to strengthen their forward line in the January transfer window, adding further uncertainty to the squad’s attacking options. “We have to check everything, but of course, we are going to have a problem [with AFCON players],” said Amorim. “We already knew that, so we can prepare for that. But with Ben’s situation, we’ll have to see if we can improve the team in January and repair something that happens.”
United’s Performance and the Road Ahead
Despite the injury setback, Manchester United remain firmly in contention for Champions League qualification, having extended their unbeaten Premier League run to five matches. However, the club has drawn their last two away games, both of which featured dramatic late equalizers — against Spurs and Nottingham Forest.
While the points were valuable, Amorim emphasized that his side had missed an opportunity to secure all three. “We controlled the game well, but we need to do better,” he explained. “When you cannot win, you don’t lose — but we should have been more aggressive, more brave, and felt the atmosphere in the stadium more. The three points were there for the taking. We need to grow as a team.”
The United boss suggested that a more proactive approach could have seen his team clinch victory, noting that they had become “comfortable” after equalizing. “If we had more bravery, we could have killed the game. We need to press with more intensity and take control.”

The Road to January
With the January transfer window fast approaching, United’s immediate focus will be to assess Sesko’s injury and potentially make plans for a new signing if the forward’s absence is prolonged. Amorim’s statements indicate that he is already preparing for the challenges ahead, but it remains to be seen how this latest injury setback will impact United’s title ambitions and their race for a top-four finish.
For now, the club will hope for a positive update on Sesko’s knee injury, but with key players missing for both domestic and international duty, Ruben Amorim will need to rally his squad to cope with the upcoming challenges.
