Lisandro Martinez Injury Update: Man Utd Defender Closer to Full Recovery
Manchester, UK – Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez has taken a big step in his recovery from an ACL injury. Nearly nine months after suffering the injury in February, the 27-year-old defender has returned to training.
Martinez was injured during United’s 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace. After undergoing surgery, he has been working hard to get back on the pitch. He began training outdoors at the end of pre-season, showing signs of progress. However, a minor setback earlier this month delayed his return to first-team training.

Now, the good news: Martinez is back with the team and has been cleared to participate in full training.
Delayed Return, but Progress Is Clear
Originally, Martinez was expected to return to first-team training sooner. But due to a minor setback, his comeback was delayed. Now, he’s ready to rejoin the squad.
On Thursday, Martinez was seen training at Carrington. He is getting closer to full fitness, but it’s unlikely that he will be ready to play in United’s upcoming Premier League match against Nottingham Forest this Saturday.
Ruben Amorim Talks About Martinez’s Recovery
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim gave an update on Martinez’s progress: “He’s feeling good, and his knee is responding well. I don’t want to give a specific date for his return, but he’s closer to joining the team again.”
Amorim also spoke about how much United has missed Martinez. “We miss Licha. His aggression and leadership are very important to us,” he said.
Fierce Competition for a Starting Spot
Martinez faces stiff competition to reclaim his place in United’s defense. Luke Shaw has been solid as a left-sided center-back. Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, and Leny Yoro have also impressed.
With United out of the Carabao Cup, Martinez won’t have a chance to feature in cup games before January. His return will likely come in the Premier League or Champions League.
Next Steps: Tottenham Clash and Beyond
United’s next match is away to Tottenham next weekend. It’s uncertain whether Martinez will be fit for that match, but fans are hopeful he’ll be back soon.
For now, Martinez continues his recovery and aims to regain full fitness. Despite being sidelined, he’s been involved with the team, attending meetings and supporting his teammates.
