Ruben Amorim Praises Mason Mount as Manchester United Overcome Wolves 4-1

Ruben Amorim singled out Mason Mount for special praise following Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over struggling Wolves at Molineux. The match saw United recover from a first-half wobble, with Mount playing a pivotal role in their dominant second-half display.

United appeared on the verge of squandering yet another opportunity against a Premier League struggler when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalized just before halftime, canceling out Bruno Fernandes’ early opener. But unlike their disappointing 1-1 draw with West Ham last Thursday, United found their rhythm in the second half and surged ahead with goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Mount, and Fernandes.

United’s Response to Wolves’ Equalizer

Reflecting on the match, Amorim acknowledged his team’s early shortcomings. Despite controlling the game in the first half, United’s sloppiness allowed Wolves to gain a foothold, with Bellegarde’s equalizer offering the hosts a glimmer of hope.

“I think, once again, after we scored a goal, we were a little bit sloppy on the ball and that gave a little bit of hope to the opponent,” Amorim said. “But we created a lot of chances in the first half, and we should have finished that half in a different way.”

However, the manager was quick to highlight the team’s turnaround after the break. “In the second half, we showed quality and pace, and we understood the situation Wolves were in as a club and as a team,” Amorim continued. “We took advantage of that and managed to finish the game with a comfortable scoreline.”

Mason Mount: A ‘Different Type of Leader’

Amorim was full of praise for Mount, who was awarded the man of the match for his influential performance. The midfielder was involved in both the attacking and defensive phases, demonstrating his versatility and technical quality. Amorim emphasized Mount’s leadership, noting that it is not always visible in the traditional sense, but remains highly effective.

“He can defend, he can attack, and the quality when he touches the ball is really good,” Amorim said. “It’s not a surprise for me. He’s a different type of leader. It’s not like Licha [Lisandro Martínez], for example. It’s a guy that leads by example.”

According to Amorim, Mount’s consistent professionalism, both on and off the field, has been a key influence on United’s squad. “It doesn’t matter the situation, Mason Mount is always the same – in training, talking, dealing with people around Carrington. That is not easy, so he’s a very, very good player.”

Wolves in Crisis: A Tough Night at Molineux

While Manchester United celebrated a much-needed victory, the night was far less positive for Wolves, who remain winless after 15 Premier League matches. The defeat leaves them languishing at the bottom of the table with just two points.

Fan discontent was evident throughout the match, with many supporters protesting against the club’s owners, Fosun, and chairman Jeff Shi. Chants calling for their departure echoed through the stands, underscoring the frustration with the club’s management during a difficult season.

Wolves manager Rob Edwards acknowledged the mood among the fans and the challenges facing his team. “It’s been six months since we’ve last won, so I understand the frustration,” he said. “The players are trying, I can promise that. But there’s clearly a lack of confidence and belief, and when that happens, it becomes difficult to show your best.”

Edwards also commented on the hostile atmosphere and the impact of fan protests. “I’d love it if they supported the players, but I understand their frustration. It’s been a tough time, and I’m not going to dress it up. But we need to find a way out of this.”

United’s Strong Response

United’s commanding second-half performance, highlighted by the leadership of Mount, provided a much-needed boost after a series of underwhelming results. The victory takes Manchester United up to sixth in the Premier League, keeping them in the race for European spots.

Despite the challenges, Amorim remains focused on the bigger picture, confident that his team is on the right track. With Mount continuing to lead by example and the team showing resilience in tough situations, United appear poised to recover from their early-season struggles.
