Ukrainian and US officials to meet in Florida to discuss proposals to end Russia’s war
Ukrainian negotiators are heading to Florida to meet senior US officials as Washington seeks to finalise a blueprint for ending the war in Ukraine.
New round of talks in the US
The meeting — expected to take place on Sunday — will include Marco Rubio (US Secretary of State), Steve Witkoff (special envoy) and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
They will meet with a Ukrainian delegation now led by new figures after the recent resignation of a top aide.
Why the talks matter — and what’s on the table
The discussions aim to finalise a revised framework for peace after criticism that an earlier draft had tilted too far toward Russian demands.
Key issues likely to be addressed include territorial boundaries (especially the eastern Donbas region), limitations on Ukraine’s armed forces, and Ukraine’s future ties with military alliances such as NATO.
Growing domestic and international pressure on Kyiv
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government is under renewed strain after the resignation of a top official implicated in a corruption probe, undermining stability amid peace negotiations.
On the international front, European allies have expressed concern, arguing that any deal must begin from the existing front lines — not recognise territory seized by force — and must guarantee Ukraine’s right to determine its own path.
Conflict continues even as diplomacy advances
The Florida talks begin against the backdrop of continued violence: recent Russian drone and missile strikes killed at least six people across Ukraine and sparked widespread power outages.
Simultaneously, Kyiv reportedly used naval drones to strike two Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea — a sign the war remains active, even as diplomatic efforts intensify
