Thai Troops Fire on Cambodian Forces at Preah Vihear Border

Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have escalated following an exchange of gunfire at the disputed Preah Vihear border. Plans are already in motion for an investigation into the attack, with the government emphasizing the importance of ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Declaration.

“We are committed to peace and diplomacy,” the Ministry’s statement read. “Cambodia stands firm in opposing any use of force in resolving disputes, advocating instead for peaceful dialogue in line with international law.”

The Preah Vihear region has long been a source of conflict between the two nations. The Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been at the center of a territorial dispute for years, leading to sporadic skirmishes despite the signing of a ceasefire agreement in 2011.

This latest incident has raised concerns about the stability of the region and the potential for further clashes.
