Taylor Swift Named to Songwriters Hall of Fame, Becoming Second-Youngest Inductee

LOS ANGELES — Taylor Swift will soon add another historic milestone to her career. The global pop star has been named to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, becoming the second-youngest songwriter ever selected for induction, the organization announced Wednesday.

At 36, Swift will join an elite group of music legends recognized for their lasting contributions to songwriting. The only person inducted at a younger age was Stevie Wonder, who was 33 when he received the honor in 1983.

Swift will be inducted alongside fellow songwriters Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, and Kiss bandmates Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. The ceremony is scheduled for June 11 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Announcing the inductees on CBS Mornings, culture correspondent Anthony Mason described the honorees as artists whose work has defined generations.

“They’ve literally written the soundtrack to our lives — the songs we dance to, cry to, and rock out to,” Mason said.

Recognition of a generational songwriter

Founded in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame honors composers and lyricists with enduring catalogs, typically requiring at least 20 years to have passed since the first commercial release of a qualifying song.

Swift’s body of work — spanning country, pop, indie folk, and alternative styles — has reshaped modern songwriting. She has won 14 Grammy Awards, including a record four wins for Album of the Year, and is widely credited with redefining the role of the singer-songwriter in contemporary pop music.

Her most recent studio release, The Life of a Showgirl, became the biggest first-week album release of the modern era, according to Billboard, which cited sales data from Luminate.

A career marked by record-breaking success

In 2025, Swift announced that she had regained ownership of her entire music catalog, reclaiming the master recordings for her first six albums — a move widely seen as a landmark moment in artist rights.

That same year, her record-shattering Eras Tour expanded beyond the stage, spawning a feature-length concert film and a six-part documentary series released on Disney+, chronicling the unprecedented scale and cultural impact of the tour.

Swift’s 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to sell the equivalent of 8 million albums in the United States, according to Luminate, making it one of the most commercially successful releases of the decade.

Cementing a songwriting legacy

While Swift’s commercial achievements are unmatched, her induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame places the focus squarely on her craft — the storytelling, lyrical precision, and emotional range that have fueled her longevity.

By joining the Hall before the age of 40, Swift becomes a rare figure whose influence is already viewed as historic, even as her career continues to evolve.

The June ceremony will formally enshrine her alongside some of the most influential songwriters in music history, marking another chapter in a career that has consistently blurred the line between pop stardom and enduring artistic legacy.
