IKEA Announces New Fort Collins, Colorado Store as Part of 2026 Expansion

IKEA is bringing its iconic Scandinavian furniture and home goods experience to Fort Collins, Colorado, marking the retailer’s third store in the state and a notable expansion of its U.S. footprint in 2026. The announcement comes as part of a broader strategy to increase accessibility and modernize its store formats across key markets.

The new IKEA store will be located at 4250 Corbett Drive in the Front Range Village Shopping Center and is scheduled to open sometime this year, though the company has not yet announced an exact date.

Smaller‑Format, Community‑Focused Retail Experience

Unlike traditional warehouse‑style IKEA stores, the Fort Collins location will occupy around 64,000 square feet — about one‑sixth the size of the full‑scale IKEA in Centennial, Colorado.

Despite its smaller footprint, the store will offer:

  • A central planning area where customers can work with IKEA experts to design kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • A selection of approximately 3,200 items, including home furnishing accessories and small furniture that shoppers can take home immediately.
  • Popular IKEA food favorites, such as Swedish meatballs, hot dogs, veggie options and cinnamon buns.

This format reflects IKEA’s evolving retail strategy, which blends convenient local access with the brand’s characteristic design offerings, while supporting its goal of making IKEA more affordable, accessible and sustainable nationwide.

Part of a Larger U.S. Growth Plan

The Fort Collins store is one of four new IKEA locations announced for 2026, joining planned openings in Chicago, Tulsa and Los Angeles as part of the company’s U.S. expansion year. IKEA plans to open 10 new stores across the country in 2026, including both traditional and smaller‑format footprints tailored to local markets.

Colorado already hosts a large IKEA location in Centennial — a 415,000‑square‑foot flagship that opened in 2011 — and a smaller “plan and order point” store in Colorado Springs that launched in 2025. The Fort Collins location will bring IKEA closer to northern Colorado shoppers who previously traveled significant distances to reach the Centennial store.

Community and Economic Impacts

Local response to the news has been enthusiastic, with area residents expressing excitement about having easier access to IKEA’s products and planning services. Some community members have jokingly noted they’re most looking forward to the Swedish meatballs and bakery items that have become synonymous with IKEA visits — a symbol of the brand’s cultural influence.

Economic analysts also predict that the new store could generate increased foot traffic and sales tax revenue for Fort Collins, potentially boosting local retail activity in the growing northern Colorado region.
