Ex-NFL Star Antonio Brown Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge After Miami Shooting

Antonio Brown, the former NFL wide receiver, has been arrested on an attempted murder charge following a shooting incident after a celebrity boxing match in Miami.

Miami police confirmed that Brown, 37, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He was then flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is awaiting extradition to Miami.

It’s unclear why Brown was transferred to New Jersey, or how long he had been in Dubai, though he posted several updates on social media from the UAE in recent months.

The Shooting Incident

The arrest stems from a shooting on May 16, following a celebrity boxing event. According to police, Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security guard after a fight with Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, a man he had previously clashed with during the event.

Nantambu told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck, but he did not suffer serious injuries. Police had initially detained Brown after gunshots were heard following the altercation, but he was released after several hours.

Brown’s Version of Events

The next day, Brown took to social media to explain his side of the story. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that he was attacked by several individuals who tried to steal his jewelry.

“I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” Brown wrote. “Contrary to some video circulating, police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

Arrest Warrant and Legal Trouble

A warrant for Brown’s arrest was issued on June 11. The second-degree attempted murder charge could result in a 15-year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine if Brown is convicted.

Antonio Brown’s Legal History

Brown’s legal troubles have been well-documented. Over the years, he has faced multiple accusations, including battery against a moving truck driver, domestic violence, and failing to pay child support.

In 2021, Brown made headlines when he removed his jersey during a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game and walked off the field. The incident led to his release from the team and effectively ended his NFL career.

What’s Next for Antonio Brown?

It is unclear when Brown will return to Miami to face the charges. His legal team has not yet commented on the situation. However, if convicted, Brown faces significant prison time, further complicating his already troubled post-football life.
