CMAA Strongly Condemns Thailand’s Ongoing Military Aggression and Misinformation Campaign
The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) has issued a forceful statement condemning what it describes as continued Thai military aggression against Cambodia and a parallel misinformation campaign aimed at obscuring unlawful actions on the ground.
According to the CMAA, Thai forces have repeatedly violated Cambodian sovereignty through cross-border incursions and aerial strikes targeting areas inside Cambodian territory, including near civilian communities. The statement alleges the use of F-16 fighter jets for bombing runs, actions the authority says contravene both the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter, as well as basic principles of international humanitarian law.
Of particular concern to the CMAA are credible reports indicating the use of cluster munitions and toxic gases in or near densely populated areas. Such weaponry, inherently indiscriminate in nature, poses severe and long-lasting threats to civilian lives and land safety, the statement noted. The authority underscored that the deployment of these weapons could amount to war crimes under international law.
Alongside allegations of military aggression, the CMAA strongly rebuked what it terms an intentional misinformation campaign by Thai sources. Cambodian officials argue that Thailand has sought to exploit humanitarian narratives — especially related to landmine issues — to distract from its aerial operations and justify its use of force. The CMAA emphasised that photographs or media presented without verified timelines, locations, or proper documentation cannot be accepted as objective evidence.
“Disinformation, no matter how frequently repeated, cannot conceal the reality of bombs falling on civilian areas,” the statement stressed, urging the international community not to be misled by unilateral claims lacking independent verification.
Despite mounting tensions, Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to peace, international law, and regional stability, saying it has exercised restraint in the face of repeated provocations. However, the CMAA warned that restraint should not be mistaken for acquiescence. The statement concluded with an appeal for immediate action from ASEAN, the United Nations, and other global partners to condemn the alleged aggression, protect civilians, and uphold international legal norms.
Cambodia has reiterated its willingness to pursue peace and dialogue, while maintaining that sustainable stability cannot be built on military force or the manipulation of humanitarian principles
