Apple Code Leak Reveals HomePod Mini 2, iPad Mini 8 and New Apple TV 4K
Apple appears to have more hardware updates in the pipeline, and newly discovered references in the company’s own software code are offering an early look at three products that could arrive before the end of the year.
The leaked information points to a new HomePod mini, an iPad mini 8 and a fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. The details remain unofficial, but the findings are notable because they reportedly come from Apple’s own code and include images that appear to correspond to the upcoming devices.
Apple has not announced any of these products, and the company has not confirmed their release dates, prices or final specifications. Still, the leaked information provides some clues about what could be coming next.
HomePod Mini 2 Could Arrive in New Colors
The second-generation HomePod mini appears to be receiving a relatively familiar design rather than a complete visual overhaul.
According to the leaked images, Apple is expected to retain the compact spherical shape introduced with the original HomePod mini in 2020. The most obvious change could instead be the available colors.
The leaked HomePod mini 2 appears in green, pink, blue, white and black finishes. These colors look more muted than some of the brighter options Apple has offered for the current model.
That could make the updated speaker easier to match with home interiors while giving Apple a way to distinguish the new model from its predecessor.
Beyond the exterior, the leaked code provides limited information about the hardware inside the HomePod mini 2. Previous reports have suggested Apple is working on broader upgrades to its smart-home lineup, including improvements related to Siri and Apple’s expanding home strategy.
However, the latest leak does not establish exactly which new features will be available when the speaker launches.
iPad Mini 8 Could Get a Major Processor Upgrade
The iPad mini 8 appears to have the most significant hardware changes among the three leaked products.
The upcoming compact tablet is reportedly set to replace the seventh-generation iPad mini, which Apple introduced two years ago. One of the biggest changes could be the processor.
The leaked information points to Apple’s A20 Pro chip, the same generation of processor used in the company’s newest high-end iPhone models. If accurate, that would represent a substantial jump from the A17 Pro found in the current iPad mini.
A newer processor would give the iPad mini additional performance headroom for demanding applications, gaming and future versions of iPadOS.
The leaked images also appear to show a change to the front-facing camera. Apple has reportedly moved the camera to the landscape edge of the tablet.
That would bring the iPad mini more closely in line with Apple’s newer iPad designs, where the front camera is positioned for video calls when the device is held horizontally.
The images may also show a revised speaker arrangement. A narrow opening along the top edge could indicate an additional speaker or a change in how sound is produced.
There have also been reports that the next iPad mini could receive an OLED display and improved resistance to water. Those features, however, are not confirmed by the latest leaked images.
If Apple does introduce OLED technology to the smaller iPad, the change could improve contrast, black levels and overall display quality while bringing the mini closer to the technology already used in the larger iPad Pro.
New Apple TV 4K Could Focus on Performance
The Apple TV 4K is also apparently due for an update.
The current Apple TV model has been available for several years, making a new generation increasingly expected. The leaked files reportedly identify a device as the Apple TV 4K fourth generation.
Visually, however, there may not be much of a difference.
The leaked image shows a box that appears broadly similar to the current Apple TV design. Apple may therefore concentrate more heavily on internal improvements rather than a major redesign.
Earlier reports have suggested that Apple could equip the next Apple TV with an A17 Pro processor. Such an upgrade would provide significantly more processing power than the hardware used in the current model.
There has also been speculation that Apple could use its own N1 wireless chip in the next Apple TV. The N1 has already become part of Apple’s broader push to develop more of its own connectivity technology.
The latest leak does not confirm those specifications, so they should still be treated as possibilities rather than final product details.
Apple’s Next Hardware Wave
The three products could form part of a broader hardware push from Apple following the company’s latest iPhone launches.
The timing would also make sense for Apple to refresh products that have been on the market for several years. The HomePod mini has not received a major successor since its original launch, while the Apple TV has also gone several years without a new generation.
The iPad mini, meanwhile, remains one of Apple’s more specialized tablets, offering a compact alternative to the larger iPad models.
What makes the latest discovery particularly interesting is that the information reportedly came from Apple software code rather than from a traditional supply-chain report. Apple has previously left references to unreleased products in its operating systems and other software, giving researchers an opportunity to uncover hardware plans before official announcements.
Still, leaked code is not the same as a product announcement. Hardware projects can change during development, and features found in early software may ultimately be removed or delayed.
For now, the reported HomePod mini 2, iPad mini 8 and Apple TV 4K fourth generation remain unannounced products. Apple has not confirmed when they will arrive, how much they will cost or whether all three will launch at the same time.
If the leaked details prove accurate, however, Apple’s next wave of smaller and home-focused hardware could bring new processors, refreshed designs and several long-awaited updates to its product lineup.
