Champions League Draw: PSG Faces Barca, City and Villa
The Champions League draw has produced a blockbuster league-phase schedule for defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, who will face Barcelona, Manchester City and Aston Villa during the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League campaign.
The draw was held in Monaco on Thursday, August 27, with the 36 clubs learning their eight opponents under UEFA’s league-phase format. PSG Gets One of the Toughest Champions League Draws
PSG entered the Champions League draw as the defending champion and top seed, but its list of opponents is anything but comfortable.
The French club will host Barcelona, Roma, Galatasaray and Slovan Bratislava. Away from home, PSG will travel to Manchester City, Aston Villa, Villarreal and Como.

Liverpool Gets a More Manageable Schedule
Liverpool appears to have received a comparatively favorable Champions League draw among the Premier League contenders.

The trip to Inter Milan is likely to be Liverpool’s toughest assignment.

The Champions League draw once again used UEFA’s 36-team league-phase system.
Instead of dividing the clubs into traditional groups, all 36 teams are placed into one league table.

Teams are drawn against two opponents from each of the four seeding pots. Each club plays four matches at home and four away.
The system also includes restrictions designed to prevent certain matchups.
Teams cannot face opponents from the same national association during the league phase. A club can also be drawn against a maximum of two teams from another association.

When Does the Champions League Start?
The first matches of the 2026-27 Champions League league phase are scheduled for September 8-10.
The remaining matchdays will take place in October, November, December and January, with the final league-phase matches scheduled for January 27, 2027.
The complete fixture schedule, including exact dates and kickoff times, is expected to be confirmed separately by UEFA.
The knockout phase will begin in February 2027.
The round of 16 is scheduled for March, followed by the quarterfinals in April and the semifinals in late April and early May.

The 2026-27 Champions League campaign will conclude in Madrid.
The final is scheduled for June 5, 2027, at the Estadio Metropolitano, home of Atletico Madrid.
